Holy cow, it's November!!! This year is going way too fast. I can't believe we need to start thinking about Christmas stuff. I'll be honest, I'm not the best at decorating for the holidays. I put out a few things, but I just don't have time to go all out. I love small and simple holiday decorations that can be stored and set-up easily.

Even though we're only 4 weeks away from December, I've got a SUPER simple project for you. You can make an adorable house shaped advent calendar in just a couple hours! I'm sharing the whole build over at BuildSomething.com

DIY Changeable Light Box - Building Plans

How to build a wood light box with changeable signs - FREE building plans!

Happy Friday guys! Today's project kills two birds with one stone. Well, actually more like 4 or 5 birds.

I've been working on making over my twin boys' bedroom. It started with the Shoe Storage Nightstand and a couple weeks ago I shared the Modern Bunk Beds that I built for them. I wanted to come up with a cool nightlight that I could hang on the wall, and as everyone knows, the holidays are creeping up faster than a starving cheetah. Lately, I seem to struggle to find Holiday decor that matches the modern-ish style of my house and I'm also kinda lazy when it comes to holiday decorating.

How to Make a Faux Stone Column

how to make a faux stone column tutorial

A couple weeks ago I shared with you my front porch all decked out for Halloween. My boys were begging to make our house "creepy" this year, so I went with a graveyard theme. As soon as I saw a massive, faux stone gargoyle in the holiday section at Home Depot, I decided to make a column for him to sit on.

So I'm absolutely in love with the current patterned, cement tile trend! I've seen them used for backsplashes and fireplace surrounds, but I secretly long to have a patterned tile bathroom floor. There are two problems though.

Make an Easy Picture Frame With Glass

Friday, July 15, 2016 -
Easy picture frame with glass tutorial

A few months ago I got a couple of gorgeous art prints from Minted. The first one I created a frameless, floating mount for and hung it in my bedroom. The second print, is massive! (30" x 40") And sat under my bed until I came up with an equally huge frame. There was no way I was going to pay the money for a custom frame, so I decided to make a real, high quality frame myself.

I found a few different tutorials for making a large picture frame, but I wasn't satisfied with any of them. Either they were built too flimsy, required special tools (like a router), or didn't accommodate a sheet of real glass. I'm really happy with the solution I came up with. It was easy to build, sturdy, and is a full fledged frame, with a groove for a heavy sheet of glass.

How to Make a Modern Cactus Jewelry Stand

modern cactus jewelry stand tutorial

I remember shortly after the 90's ended being totally disgusted by southwest decor. I couldn't understand why pastels and tribal prints were ever popular. Here I am, 16 years later totally crushing on a few southwest looks. As a tribute to my Sonoran desert home, I came up with a fun little cactus jewelry stand to keep on my dresser

How to Make an Ombre Concrete Lamp

how to make an ombre concrete lamp with video tutorial

I love making lamps! Honestly, I could have a whole blog on making lamps, but I'd run out of places to put them pretty soon. Last summer I shared my Tapered X lamps, which still sit happily on my custom nightstands, and today I'm showing you how to make an ombre, dyed concrete lamp.

I'm no stranger to concrete. I poured my own bathroom vanity top, made a little kitchen platform and used concrete again when I built my Rolling Outdoor Island. If you are a newbie to the world of concrete and are looking for a first project to get your feet wet, this is the perfect lamp for you!

Modern Curtain Rod and Finial Tutorial

Tuesday, March 15, 2016 -
Easy to follow tutorial for making your own modern curtain rods and finals.

My plan is to stick with simple white walls in the new house, so I decided I need to introduce some color. I fell in love with the Sanela velvet curtains from Ikea in the color "dark turquoise". Our house has 9ft ceilings, so the fact that the Sanela panels comes in extra long lengths sealed the deal.

With my curtains picked out, I started brainstorming ideas for modern looking curtain rods and finials that I could make myself. I've gotta say, I'm really happy with the simple, inexpensive design I came up with! Once again, I partnered with my friends at Rockler to show you how its done.

DIY Hourglass

Make your own DIY hourglass from supplies found at the craft store.

I've always had a love for hourglasses. My dream thrift store find would be an antique hourglass, but I'm not holding my breath till that day comes. In the meantime, I created my own DIY hourglass from a couple empty soap bottles and a few supplies from the craft store.
