What Time Is It In Moscow?: Time Zone Clock Art

Friday, April 11, 2014

Do you ever look at the clock and wonder where the time went? This is me, like, everyday. I majorly freak out when in a time crunch, so you think I would learn the skill of time management.

Nope. In fact, I'm a procrastinator, running around like a headless chicken most of the time.

Anyways, while we're talking about time, I want to share my newest project with you. It was super quick and easy!

I have this tall, narrow wall, separating my kitchen and formal living room (I use the word "formal" very loosely). It is the first think you see when you walk in from the garage, and it has always looked a little sad.

Constantly looking to add a vintage/industrial look, the first step was to buy 5 of these cool office clocks 12-1/2 Diameter 24-Hour Round Wall Clock (affiliate link). I found smaller, less expensive clocks, but I liked the large size of these ones, and I really wanted the "old school" look. If you were on a budget, I've seen some $4 wall clocks at Wal-Mart recently.

Next, I found a scrap piece of 1/4" plywood and cut five, 11"x 2.5" rectangles. Each rectangle got stained with one coat of my homemade oxidizing solution, turning them a dark, weathered grey.

I decided on the name of five cities I wanted to use. One of these days I'll buy a Silhouette. In the meantime, I took a piece of contact paper to my friend Chanell, who graciously cut some stencils for me.

After stenciling a city name on to each of the wood rectangles, all that was left was to set the times on the clocks, and hang everything up.

I tossed around a few ideas on how to mount the name plaques. I finally decided to use a Command velcro strip for each. Worked great! And I can move them around if I ever decide to.

I LOVE the way it turned out! Its hard to get the whole look in a photo. It looks even cooler in person. This is a great option for inexpensive wall art. Overall, the whole thing takes up almost 8 ft of wall. A big bang for your buck!

So, now if I ever need to know what time it is in Moscow, I'm set.
