Oh man! Last Friday officially marked 2 years since we bought our new house. It took a couple of months to finish remodeling the kitchen so we didn't move in right away, but still, time has flown by! When we first walked through the house, I had big plans in my head. I had plans to replace the obvious stuff like the dated appliances and chipping countertops, but I also wanted to upgrade things other people may not have noticed. My husband thought it was ridiculous to replace "perfectly fine" doors just because I didn't like the pattern. I mean, how much difference can the shape of a door make? A big one my friends

How to make a rice knife block with free building plans

I've been wanting to build this project for a long while. We're not too fancy in our house. We don't have a full set of matching knives in a beautiful, custom knife block. We have a random assortment of hand-me-downs and Ikea specials. I'd seen knives stored in rice before and thought making a custom box would be the perfect solution.

Learn how to modify a cabinet to accomidate an apron front sink

When we first started to plan the new kitchen design, one essential element I knew I wanted to include was an apron front sink. I also knew it was going to be a hard sell to my husband. He's not a big fan of the farmhouse style, and has openly expressed his dislike for apron sinks.

I was planning more of a modern look for the kitchen, and when I showed my husband this stainless steel apron sink from Moen, he could see the vision and agreed. Success! We chose the STo faucet and a modern soap pump, and we were ready to get to work.

Gorgeous white kitchen with DIY stacked upper cabinets and stainless steel accents

Finally!!! I can show you part of my house remodel. We spent the largest amount of time and money on updating the kitchen, but I think it was worth all of it! The kitchen is the heart of the home right? And supposedly kitchens and bathrooms give the best return on investment.

Darken Cabinets WITHOUT Stripping the Existing Finish

Monday, June 23, 2014 -

My bathroom makeover may possibly be the slowest in history. It started last year when I removed the hideous, cheap light bar above the vanity and replaced it with 2 beautiful light fixtures

The next step was to add moulding to the wall-mounted mirror, and I shared some tricks to make that process easier.
And that's where things stayed... for months and months. Recently, I finally found the motivation and decided it was time to tackle updating the vanity. If you have lived in a house built in the last 25 years, the odds are pretty good you have lived with cabinets like these. Typical, builder-grade oak, finished in a gold/honey color.
