Mid-century modern nightstand with shoe storage building plans

When my boys were babies, we started using a basket to hold their shoes. Well, now they are growing bigger and their shoes are getting larger too. We need a better solution for shoe storage. I decided I could incorporate divided cubbies in a nightstand, and it gave me a chance to try a new idea for a cabinet door that I had been brainstorming.

60 DIY tutorials modern decor

If you have followed my blog for a while (I want to give you a big kiss!), you may have noticed my design style slowly changing. Yours probably has too! It seems like the design trend is leaning towards modern and retro styles.

Funny enough, if you would have handed me a dresser with tapered cone feet four years ago, I would have gagged. Nowadays, I want to screw them onto everything! Whether you dig tapered feet or not, I've put together a massive list of 60 Modern decor projects you can build yourself.

Three Way Nesting Coffee Tables Building Plans

how to build three way modern nesting coffee table

We've been in the "new" house for about 9 months now. I've changed my design style over the last couple years, so chose to take very few furniture pieces with me when we moved. One piece dear to my heart is my Industrial Coffee Table I built a while back. It's the project I learned to weld on and remains one of my favorite projects I've ever built.

However.....

Times are a changing and the dark, industrial style no longer fit my living room. I talked to my husband and asked what he'd like to see in a replacement. We have a long, shallow living room and unless I took up half the space with one massive unit, it's hard to actually use a coffee table in the space. A normal coffee table is purely decorative and looks a bit small in the space. I decided a set of nesting tables would be the perfect solution. We can pull the smaller tables out and use them anywhere we want, and when we're done, I can push them back in place and we don't have table-zilla taking over the place.

Easy DIY Industrial Bench or Ottoman

Friday, July 29, 2016 -

Happy Friday everyone! I've been super busy lately, building and getting ready to attend Haven Conference in Atlanta next week. Representing Simpson Strong-Tie, I'll be there with my good friend Jen Woodhouse, showing you how to build a cool outdoor ottoman which Jen designed.

As a brand ambassador, I've had the chance to build some pretty cool things using Simpson Strong-Tie® products (like my Tall Printers Cabinet and my Rolling Outdoor Island). Today, I want to share an easy furniture building project even a beginner builder could master.

Make an Easy Picture Frame With Glass

Easy picture frame with glass tutorial

A few months ago I got a couple of gorgeous art prints from Minted. The first one I created a frameless, floating mount for and hung it in my bedroom. The second print, is massive! (30" x 40") And sat under my bed until I came up with an equally huge frame. There was no way I was going to pay the money for a custom frame, so I decided to make a real, high quality frame myself.

I found a few different tutorials for making a large picture frame, but I wasn't satisfied with any of them. Either they were built too flimsy, required special tools (like a router), or didn't accommodate a sheet of real glass. I'm really happy with the solution I came up with. It was easy to build, sturdy, and is a full fledged frame, with a groove for a heavy sheet of glass.
