Frameless Floating Art Tutorial

How to make your own frameless, floating, acrylic art frame.

The new house is. done people! Well, done enough for now. I kinda doubt we will ever stop working on it to tell the truth. No worries, photos coming soon I promise!

So, now that the remodeling is done, its time to start decorating! I've decided I love the look of white walls. Something I've discovered is, if you are going to have white walls, you've got to have some amazing art hanging on them. I've had an idea for a floating frame swimming around in my head for a while. Combine that with a gorgeous art print I spotted on the Minted website, and I'm one step closer to filling my walls.

How to build a floating top console table with free building plans.

Have you noticed the live edge slab trend that's going on? A live edge slab is a board of wood that has only been milled on two sides, leaving the the natural curves and imperfections from the outside of the tree. I freaking love them!

I am so excited for this announcement! Back in July, 16 of my best builder buddies and I took part in a One Board Challenge, hatched up by my good friend Jen Woodhouse. The idea was for us to come up with the best project we could, utilizing a single eight foot, 1 x 8 board.

How to make modern wood salt and pepper shakers

*This post contains affiliate links.

So we are in the process of moving to a new house. A new house is fun and exciting, moving on the other hand is not. My husband has already informed me that my scrap pile will not be coming with us, so that means I need to use it before I lose it. I don't remember where it came from, but I had a length of 2" wood dowel sitting on a shelf. I decided I could makes some pretty sweet salt and pepper shakers, so that's what I did.

5 Tips for Better Sprayed Paint Results

h5 Tips for Better Sprayed Paint Results

As time goes on, I find myself using a paintbrush much less, and spraying just about everything through a spray gun. I love the coverage and have decided you can beat a sprayed finish appearance wise. Although spraying requires more set-up and clean-up, most of the time the process is actually faster than brushing or rolling. On rare occasion I will be looking for a heavily textured, rustic look and I'll bust out a brush. For some looks (like high gloss lacquer), spraying is a requirement, but I have found I can achieve almost any style with a sprayer.

Whether you have a paint/finish sprayer, are looking to buy one, or just find yourself using a shaker can from time to time, these 5 tips will improve you sprayed paint and finish results.

Homework and Backpack Center Building Plans

DIY homework and backpack center free building plans

Last year my twins started kindergarten and we quickly discovered the avalanche of papers that get sent home. My organizational style is "stuff it and stack it". I call it tidy as long as all the junk is stacked up into general groups. I also was about to loose my mind with backpacks being thrown on the floor as soon as we walked in the door. So, I built a DIY Backpack and Homework Center and shared the process in this tutorial

Modern 3 Leg End Table: One Board Challenge

Friday, July 17, 2015 -

Here are the rules: The project can be anything you want, but must be built from one, 1 x 8 x 8' board. Other materials can be added, but the only lumber used must come from the board.

How to build trestle x table lamp
So my story started months ago when I saw this lamp at World Market. I absolutely loved how "architectural" it looked and figured it couldn't be too hard to build myself. Since I was at it, I might as well make it a little larger to fit my space better.

"In My Former Life..."

Monday, May 18, 2015
I bet you can't guess what your favorite DIY bloggers did for work before the blog. Learn why anyone can overcome their fears and become a DIYer.

Did you know that bloggers are actual people? We are. Shocking, I know.

Although a few of us in the DIY blog world come from a career in carpentry or construction, most of us were everyday Joes like you. I die a little inside every time I read a comment about one of my projects saying something like "I love this, but it looks too hard." or "I wish".

Guess what guys? There was a time in my life when I didn't know how to weld, or even drill a pocket hole. That stuff can all be learned. Don't think just because you don't have the experience, you can't create beautiful things. Clark Kent worked in a newsroom by day, but just remember what he did at night!

How to Get an Even Finish When Staining Pine

Friday, April 10, 2015 -

Brave new waters for me people. You may have noticed my tutorials can get pretty lengthy. Partly because my techniques can be a little complicated, but mostly, I am anal and like to over explain. I've decided videos might be the way to go.

Tall Tapered Leg Dresser

Thursday, April 2, 2015 -

My poor bedroom has been neglected. We inherited a hand-me-down guest bedroom set of furniture 7 years ago when we got married, and while I greatly appreciated having somewhere to sleep, it probably wasn't what I would have picked out myself. I decided I should finally start building us a new set, and here is the first piece.

"Consider the Lilies" Printable

Monday, March 30, 2015 -
Free "Consider the Lilies" printable.

Happy Monday everyone. I think most of the country is starting to settle into spring, and in our house we are getting ready for Easter.

This time of the year reminds me of my Grandma and her favorite song "Consider the Lilies" (you can listen to it here). A few nights ago, I had that beautiful song in my head, so I was prompted to open my bible and read the verses that inspired the song.

Box Train Bookshelf Knock-off

Thursday, March 19, 2015 -
Make all three shelves for $40. Box train bookshelf knock-off, with free building plans.

A few weeks ago, I was looking at the adorable, train themed boy's room at The Heathered Nest when I spotted a set of super cute box car bookshelves. Double Lemon Tarts

Friday, March 6, 2015
So light and refreshing! Two layers of tangy and sweet lemon filling and a buttery crust.

I decided its been way too long since I shared a recipe with you all! Down here in Arizona, the trees have been loaded with citrus and everyone I know is dying to give it away. We don't have any citrus trees (or really much landscaping at all), so we are the happy recipients of whatever fruit people throw our way.

Dumpster Bike Make-Over

DIY black and cream bike make-over

Most of the country is apparently covered in snow right now, or so the news tells me. Here is Arizona, we are flirting with Spring. Indulge me for a minute; this is the time of the year we get to brag to the rest of the country. The temperatures have been in the high 70's and it could not be more beautiful outside. Trees are blooming, birds are singing, and the sidewalks are filled with bicycles, scooters, skates, you name it. With this beautiful weather, I've been begging hinting to my husband that I want a bicycle.

How to Get a Textured, Raised Grain on Wood

Detailed tutorial how to achieve a textured, raised grain finish on wood. Perfect with grey toned stains.

Last week I shared my Jordan dresser knock-off with you, and I promised to show you how I got the textured, raised grain look on the drawer fronts. If you like the texture of old weathered wood, but don't have any of the real stuff laying around. no worries. I made my drawer faces from off the shelf 1 x 8's. A few simple steps make a big difference.

Make your own DIY chandelier using inexpensive craft foam

I'm a great boy mom. Despite the fact that I am a licensed hairstylist and have been known to sport 6" heels from time to time, I'm really not a girly-girl. When it comes to raising kids, I do much better with mudpies and monsters than glitter and emotions.
