Finally!!! I can show you part of my house remodel. We spent the largest amount of time and money on updating the kitchen, but I think it was worth all of it! The kitchen is the heart of the home right? And supposedly kitchens and bathrooms give the best return on investment.

Our new house, like many houses, is full of stuff. Some good stuff, some junky stuff. Stuff that needs to find a home. Inspired by vintage metal locker systems I have seen, I decided to build a cubby storage system to hide all the crap we have laying around.

I have some super exciting things going on right now. First, if you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, you know that we moved into a new house a few months ago. In addition to remodeling the kitchen, the floors, and workshop area, I have been busy building furniture to fill the rooms.
This year also brings some new collaborations. I have the privilege of being one of the 2016 Brand Ambassadors, representing *Simpson Strong-Tie®. Strong-Tie products are the industry standard in construction. The odds are very good that the home you live in was built using *Simpson Strong-Tie® connectors and fasteners. Anyone who has read this blog knows that I can be a bit of a perfectionist with my builds. I absolutely love the idea of working with a company who also doesn't settle for "good enough". I can't wait to show you the projects I have come up with, utilizing *Simpson Strong-Tie® quality products! Today, I'll share the first.

The new house is. done people! Well, done enough for now. I kinda doubt we will ever stop working on it to tell the truth. No worries, photos coming soon I promise!
So, now that the remodeling is done, its time to start decorating! I've decided I love the look of white walls. Something I've discovered is, if you are going to have white walls, you've got to have some amazing art hanging on them. I've had an idea for a floating frame swimming around in my head for a while. Combine that with a gorgeous art print I spotted on the Minted website, and I'm one step closer to filling my walls.

Have you noticed the live edge slab trend that's going on? A live edge slab is a board of wood that has only been milled on two sides, leaving the the natural curves and imperfections from the outside of the tree. I freaking love them!

Holy cow! How did this year go by so fast?! I get asked about tools a lot, so I decided to put together a few lists of my favorite, essential tools, breaking them into skill categories. All the links below are affiliate links, which means I make a very small commission if you buy the product. Although I may make a little money from selling these tools, I can honestly say I use EVERY SINGLE ONE of them on a regular basis. I am recommending them because I honestly love them! If you or someone you know is a "do-it-yourself" kind of person, these tools are essential.
One Board Challenge - Your Turn to Win!
Tuesday, September 15, 2015
I am so excited for this announcement! Back in July, 16 of my best builder buddies and I took part in a One Board Challenge, hatched up by my good friend Jen Woodhouse. The idea was for us to come up with the best project we could, utilizing a single eight foot, 1 x 8 board.

So we are in the process of moving to a new house. A new house is fun and exciting, moving on the other hand is not. My husband has already informed me that my scrap pile will not be coming with us, so that means I need to use it before I lose it. I don't remember where it came from, but I had a length of 2" wood dowel sitting on a shelf. I decided I could makes some pretty sweet salt and pepper shakers, so that's what I did.
5 Tips for Better Sprayed Paint Results

Tips and Tricks
As time goes on, I find myself using a paintbrush much less, and spraying just about everything through a spray gun. I love the coverage and have decided you can beat a sprayed finish appearance wise. Although spraying requires more set-up and clean-up, most of the time the process is actually faster than brushing or rolling. On rare occasion I will be looking for a heavily textured, rustic look and I'll bust out a brush. For some looks (like high gloss lacquer), spraying is a requirement, but I have found I can achieve almost any style with a sprayer.
Whether you have a paint/finish sprayer, are looking to buy one, or just find yourself using a shaker can from time to time, these 5 tips will improve you sprayed paint and finish results.

Last year my twins started kindergarten and we quickly discovered the avalanche of papers that get sent home. My organizational style is "stuff it and stack it". I call it tidy as long as all the junk is stacked up into general groups. I also was about to loose my mind with backpacks being thrown on the floor as soon as we walked in the door. So, I built a DIY Backpack and Homework Center and shared the process in this tutorial.

One of the best things about being a blogger are the awesome relationships you form. A few weeks backs, my friend Jen Woodhouse issued a One Board Challenge to me and 15 of our builder blog besties. Here are the rules: The project can be anything you want, but must be built from one, 1 x 8 x 8' board. Other materials can be added, but the only lumber used must come from the board.

"In My Former Life..."
Monday, May 18, 2015
Did you know that bloggers are actual people? We are. Shocking, I know.
Although a few of us in the DIY blog world come from a career in carpentry or construction, most of us were everyday Joes like you. I die a little inside every time I read a comment about one of my projects saying something like "I love this, but it looks too hard." or "I wish".
Guess what guys? There was a time in my life when I didn't know how to weld, or even drill a pocket hole. That stuff can all be learned. Don't think just because you don't have the experience, you can't create beautiful things. Clark Kent worked in a newsroom by day, but just remember what he did at night!

Happy Monday everyone. I think most of the country is starting to settle into spring, and in our house we are getting ready for Easter.
This time of the year reminds me of my Grandma and her favorite song "Consider the Lilies" (you can listen to it here). A few nights ago, I had that beautiful song in my head, so I was prompted to open my bible and read the verses that inspired the song.
